One of the world’s most beautiful drop zones on the brink of destruction?
For skydivers, the name Skydive Voss (Norway) sounds like Christmas and a birthday combined.
Voss – This is the wonderful community in Norway, about an hour inland from Bergen.
Voss – This is the home of Ekstremsport Veko, an annual event that magically attracts the whole world, the who’s who of extreme sports and also gives “normal” people a wonderful insight into various sports and encourages them to participate.
Voss is first and foremost a mecca for every skydiver.
Skydive Voss is probably one of the most beautiful and best equipped drop zones in the world.
A home for countless employees, volunteers and even more athletes.
Our story also began here, at Skydive Voss. With a tandem jump with a view of the snow-covered mountains, the lakes and the wonderful Norwegian landscape.
Now Skydive Voss is on the brink of closure.
The story is a long one. It is about failures on various sides, conflicts of interest and above all – as always – greed and profit.
The land on which Skydive Voss is located belongs to an investor who wants to demolish the drop zone in order to build an industrial estate on it.
This is against the interests and views of the local population, who are united behind Skydive Voss, which is also the base of Ekstremsport Veko.
The Drop Zone and the sports week are not only good income for the town and the surrounding area, they are also a figurehead for the entire region. A municipality could not wish for better, more open-minded, more honest, more inclusive and more inviting marketing.
Skydive Voss gives thousands of members between the ages of 16 and 80 a home.
A place for those who would otherwise never have come to their sport, or have avoided it. Norway is already struggling with the decline of sport and since 2019 sport has lost a large number of members, the largest decline in the youth years. In the face of increasing decline, it is important to create and maintain an environment where everyone can feel welcome. The skydiving club attracts people from different backgrounds and interests and gives them the opportunity to discover something new and exciting in adulthood.
Now we are getting closer to saying goodbye to a piece of parachute history, a place of community and the love of our sport.
Your help counts!
Skydive Voss needs legal support.
To this end, a fundraising campaign has been launched to ensure the survival of the Drop Zone and thus also of Ekstremsport Veko.
Every little contribution counts:
We also participated with 1500 NKR.
Let’s stand together and preserve this wonderful place!
Let’s make the money-hungry people understand what SKYFAM means!
Let Skydive Voss live!
For many more wonderful experiences that we as skydivers, but also as people, so urgently need.
Spread the word! Share this post and get involved!
We keep our fingers crossed for our friends in Norway!
Blue Skies!
